Going to Hell in a Hand basket

I remember hearing that phrase often from my mother.  It is not until recently that I truly
Get the meaning.  The great and powerful United States of America is "Going to Hell in a Hand Basket"  Yes, this is the perfect phrase to describe the nation we live in.  

I have never been to interested in politics.  I wasn't even always good about voting.  I don't even watch the news anymore because it is such a downer.  I was preoccupied with my family and our day to day life to care what was happening a world away.  I hate admitting that but its the truth.  I am guessing that I'm not alone.  I think most of us know just how bad things are but like we have always done, think there is nothing we can do about it.  That kind of thinking, may just be the reason that we are in this situation.  We, the people, are in trouble.  We are slowing loosing our constitutional rights.  

I can remember when "rebel" groups would warn us about "Big Brother"  We dismissed them as being paranoid crazies.  Guess they weren't to crazy.  

The thought that keeps going through my head is my history teacher said the reason history is so important is to keep future generations from repeating the past.  This he told us while we were learning about the Nazi's and what one horrible man was able to do to millions of Jews.  

I think its time to start paying attention.  A month ago, I would not have believed the government could just come and take away a family's land.  I am afraid that was just the beginning.  What's next?  The sad things is that we allowed this to happen.  We were too busy with our day to day lives, that we didn't see "Big Brother"
